The Craft

The deliberate irregularity of the Fissure is harder to execute than it appears. A perfectly straight grid in hand tufting is demanding; a grid that must look naturally imperfect neither mechanical nor sloppy, but organic requires a different and arguably greater level of control. The tufter must introduce variation intentionally, holding the line's drift within bounds that read as natural rather than accidental. The high sheen ground pile, worked separately from the matte ivory lines, requires careful management of pile direction to maintain the luminosity that makes the sage field glow. It is a piece where the finish and the material are doing as much work as the pattern.
