The Craft

The Reed's apparent simplicity conceals its demands. The vertical grooves that separate each strip must run perfectly plumb across the full height of the piece, any deviation is immediately legible against the uninterrupted ground. The strip extensions at the top and bottom are shaped and bound by hand after tufting, each one finished individually so the edges hold cleanly without curling. It is the kind of work where the quality of the finish is the entire statement where craft is not decoration but structure.
