The Craft

The Terrain is among the most complex pieces in the collection to execute. Five distinct colour zones must be tufted in sequence, each boundary between them navigated freehand along a curved, irregular edge. The challenge is not only technical holding a clean colour boundary in pile but compositional: the tufter must understand how each zone relates to the whole, so that decisions made at the edge of one form serve the balance of the piece rather than disrupting it. This is craft operating at the level of painting, where material skill and spatial judgment are inseparable.
